About our Therapy Practice in Homewood

Kiana Porter, Pre-Licensed Therapist

Caring for the well-being of people came so naturally for me at a young age. However, if you asked me in grammar school what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer definitely wouldn’t have been a therapist. I just knew I would be somewhere helping to deliver babies. As I progressed to high school, I realized many of my peers found me to be a safe and trusting space to confide in, and this is when I decided I would pursue a career that exhibits my passion for people.

My education history consists of a Bachelor’s degree in African American Studies with a concentration in Social Work from Lake Forest College. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree I worked in different social service settings which includes work at a youth residential facility, as a Child Welfare caseworker, and a Family Support Specialist where I support teenage parents with healthy parent-child attachment. My array of experience in social services has given me the opportunity to strengthen my empathy, listening, and interpersonal skills. I am currently obtaining my master’s in social work at Aurora University. I am excited to be able to use my clinical knowledge and personal experiences to support adolescents and young adults around navigating the unique mazes of life by addressing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, loss or other life concerns.

I believe in meeting individuals where they are and partnering with them to take small steps towards achieving the mental health and life goals that they desire.
